Our

STORY

Mountainous Region

With the introduction of the internet, blogs, ebooks, Amazon, and other self-publishing options, the ability to get your story out there has never been easier. But with all those options and ease of publication, it can be all too easy to get lost in the crowd.

A hundred years ago, when names like Random House, HarperCollins, and Simon & Schuster ruled the roost, it was very difficult to get a publishing contract but if you did, watch out world!, you had a great chance of joining the literary pantheon.

Today, it’s much easier to get published with many of those original powerhouses having imprints (sub-brands) that will publish many books… after a couple of years and a lot of money. But unless you have a million followers on social media or are a famous celebrity, they likely won’t do much to market your book other than put it in the Ingram catalogue and wish you luck. For this favor they’ll likely charge you tens of thousands of dollars.

That’s why, in 2008, a group of authors in North Idaho, disappointed by the lack of quality writing and the difficulty with which to get it published, banded together to form Bitterroot Mountain Publishing House.

Their mission was to select meaningful and well written, but not necessarily conventional, fiction and non-fiction.

We continue that tradition today, accepting promising first-time authors who may have had difficulty in the past. The fact is, you can write an excellent story, but getting it out there takes expertise and time that most authors don’t have. We’re here to help guide you through that process for a fraction of the cost.
